Your screen goes black for no reason, comes back when you move the mouse, and nothing else on the machine seems wrong. That is usually a setting rather than a fault.
Windows keeps two different screen-off timers, one for mains power and one for battery, and they can be wildly apart. Almost nobody has looked at either.

The setting itself: "Turn my screen off after: Select how long you want your device to wait before turning the screen off when you're not using your device, both when it's plugged in and when it's on battery power."
⭐ Note the last eight words. Microsoft says outright that there are two values, and that is the whole trap.
⚡ Sleep is a separate setting again, described the same way, and it turns the whole PC off rather than just the picture.
Screen off and sleep look identical and are not
The distinction that decides where to look.
⭐ Screen off means the picture stops and the machine keeps running. Music keeps playing and a download keeps going.
⛔ Sleep means everything stops. The music stops too, and that is your test.
⚡ So play something before you leave it. Whether the sound survives tells you which timer you are hitting.

When it happens while you are using it
A different fault, and worth separating properly.
⛔ A black screen mid-use with the machine still running is usually the cable or the connection. Reseat both ends of the video cable first.
⚡ A second or two of black then back is your graphics driver recovering. Windows restarts it silently and the picture returns.
⚠️ Repeated flicker rather than a clean cut is a different symptom again. Task Manager splits that one in seconds.
⭐ And a monitor that goes black and never comes back points at the input or the monitor itself rather than at Windows.
Through a dock, it is its own thing
Because the causes barely overlap.
⚠️ A dock adds its own reasons for a screen to drop out, and the fault often follows the laptop rather than the dock. The video path is separate from the USB path.
⭐ Try the monitor plugged straight into the laptop. If it behaves, the dock is in the chain.
The cheap checks, in order
Five minutes, cheapest first.
⭐ Read both timeouts and set them to something you choose. That is free and it is the answer more often than not.
⭐ Swap the video cable, because they fail intermittently and look perfect while doing it.
⚡ Try the other port on your monitor, and the other one on the PC.
⚠️ Then update the graphics driver. Worth doing, and less often the answer than the internet suggests.
⛔ Only then suspect the monitor. If it is not detected at all rather than going dark, that is a different list.
